DJ Black N Mild, who was known for bringing New Orleans bounce music to the radio, has passed away of the Coronavirus.
He was 44.
Back N Mild, born Oliver Stokes Jr., also worked at the Arthur Ashe Charter School in New Orleans. He left the school with a fever on March 9. On March 11 he wrote, "pneumonia not the flu" on social media. The father of four succumbed to COVID-19 on March 19, according to The Orleans Parish coroner's office.
Mild was the first DJ to bring Bounce to the radio in 2003. He relocated to Houston after Katrina, spreading New Orleans's signature sound with him. His Rhythm and Bounce show aired on New Orleans AM station WBOK from 2013 to 2017 and he was a fixture at clubs, bars, and parties.
