The tragic death of EDM superstar Avicii last week in Oman came at his own hands.
His family has revealed that the 28-year-old committed suicide.
"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. His family also said he left a suicide note.
Avicii struggled with alcohol addiction and had suffered from acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking.
In 2014, he had to take time off from touring after having his gallbladder and appendix removed. He quit touring altogether in 2016, explaining that the demands of a DJ's lifestyle were too much for him. He had been making $25 million a year at the height of his career.
