Sonny Digital has worked with everyone from 2 Chainz to 21 Savage to Rich The Kid to Future to Juicy J to Rae Sremmurd.
In a new interview with Montreality, the 27-year old gives his blunt assessments of the radio industry (ruled by payola), who invented Trap music (Jeezy and Shawty Redd) and the rapper/producer relationship (the producer is more important.)
He also argued that your favorite trap rapper hasn't really done everything he raps about -- but that's O.K.
"People who really be trapping, they not really good rappers like that,” he said. “Some of them [are], a select few. It’s like the person seeing it and not the person doing it is always able to translate it and raps a little better. I guess they got a different agenda. The person trapping is just trying to trap. The person watching is absorbing everything."
Sonny then acknowledged that watching comes with its own risks.
"Somebody watching it, you're in the trap though, too. It dangerous just being in there. If the Feds kick it in everybody's getting the same charge. They got a right to talk about the same shit, too."
