Ab-Soul is currently on a press run for his Herbert album, which drops on Friday, December 16. So far he's announced two people who will be on the project, Jay-Z and DJ Premier.
Soulo spoke about working with Preemo during an interview with Vulture and said the legendary producer made him re-record their song together, “Gotta Rap,” a bunch of times.
“I knew I needed him this time around. He definitely put me to work. I had to do it about five or six times until he found the right frequency," said Soulo. "Not rewriting. He liked the verse, but I had to match the frequency of the record, because I guess that was one of his favorite beats. So he wanted to make sure I came correct. That was the first time anybody ever made me re-record. So that was humbling. But it’s Preemo.”
Of course, Preemo wouldn't be the first prouducer to send a rapper back into the booth. But at least Soulo didn't have the same experience as the singer Morray, who said that J. Cole made him scrap his entire album.
