42 Dugg Blames Producers For Rap's Decline

by HHL JT

Seven or eight years ago, rap was clearly the top genre out there.

That's not so true anymore.  Both pop and country have become increasingly popular, while rap is increasingly only popping off with the public when there's beef in it.

Detroit rapper 42 Dugg has a theory of why.

Speaking on the Kid L podcast, Dugg claimed it's become harder to make good, interesting music because producers are slacking with their beats.  [Jump to 20 minutes]

“I feel like there’s been a decline in beats. The beats ain’t really been…That’s how I feel. … When we get in that bitch, it takes a long time to find a good beat. It used to, we go in that bitch. But it’s a whole new wave now. We’re trying to catch the new wave, and you don’t wanna sound the same, like. You don’t wanna keep giving these people the same thing.”

Do you agree?
