Famous Dex was a notable exclusion from XXL's 2017 Freshman Class list.
That led to a backlash against the magazine from Dex's fans.
However, in an emotional video, Dex told his fans to back off.
In the video, Dex explains that the snub will just motivate him to work harder to make the list next year.
It turns out there is more to the story.
During a discussion of the list on The Breakfast Club, XXL's editor-in-chief Vanessa Satten explained that an old video tape of Dex beating his ex-girlfriend contributed to him being left off of the list.
So why wasn't XXXTentacion -- who was arrested for domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated battery of a pregnant woman -- also left off the list?
"We saw it," Satten said of the tape of Dex hitting a woman. "I think the thing with X is also he’s the People’s Champ [won the fan vote for the tenth spot] and hasn’t been found guilty of anything. You kind of have to let that play out. That’s who the people wanted."Do you agree with that distinction?
