'Straight Outta Compton' Has Strong Opening Weekend Projections

N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton movie is slated to bring in $59.4 million in its opening weekend, according to Deadline. This more than doubles the original projections that had the film grossing $25 to $29 million. It brought in $4.96 million in the early screenings on August 13 (Thursday), and $24.2 million opening day.

The biopic cost around $29 million to produce, so considering the first weekend the film is a studio success. Even more-so, it's a victory for hip-hop to properly tell the story of one of the most important groups in our genre.
