We didn't even notice that Iggy Azalea won Best Song at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards for 'Fancy'.
That's because we're sorta over award show results and, anyway, we were too distracted by her new face.
But plenty of people did notice the win, and they are not happy about it. One of them, Christian Ferguson Mount Juliet, TN, started a Change.org petition to strip Iggy of the award, and it's well on its way to getting the 15,000 digital signatures needed.
"Iggy Azalea’s 2015 Billboard Award for Best Song has been proven invalid," the petition reads. "The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th, 2014 through March 2015. “Fancy” was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the eligibility starting. This is unfair to the other nominees in these category, especially to “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would’ve won. Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without 'Fancy' as a nominee."Granted, Billboard isn't required to do anything about the petition. But since it's based on a rule violation -- and not just the old "Iggy Sucks" chorus -- it could actually spark a change.
