The "Old Town Road" beat was purchased for $30, and it started as a meme, which went viral on TikTok, Soundcloud, and Twitter.
Soon after, Lil Nas X's Nine Inch Nails sampling country trap track "Old Town Road" was invading the airwaves, everywhere.
Country star Billy Ray Cyrus jumped on the remix, and it quickly hit number one on the Hot 100 and stayed there for a record-breaking nineteen weeks.
Now, it just broke another record by going fourteen-times platinum, surpassing "All of Me” by John Legend and “Despacito” by Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, and Justin Bieber, which are both certified 13x Platinum.
Congrats, Lil Nas X!
