The rock legend Tom Petty has passed away after he was found unconscious on Sunday night in his Malibu, Calif., home, according to TMZ. He was 66 years of age.
The singer was experiencing cardiac arrest when EMT workers found him. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and placed him on life support. But once it was learned that he no longer had any brain activity, life support was pulled.
Petty was in the midst of his 40th-anniversary tour with his band The Heartbreakers.
Members of the Hip Hop community and other musicians have sent their condolences to an artist whose catalog of hits compares favorably to any American-born singer-songwriter ever. You can see some of those messages below.
