Word on social media is that If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late counts as Drake's last album in his Cash Money/Young Money contract, making Drizzy a free agent.
We're not entirely sure if this is true. But we are sure that the surprise project counts as an album rather than a mixtape, so it would fulfill part of -- if not the finality of -- Drake's CMYM obligation.
Anyway, the rumor that Drake is done with his contract with Birdman and Lil Wayne makes the sinister "Courtesy Message" Rap-A-Lot CEO J. Prince dropped yesterday all the more interesting. In the spoken word diss track, Prince threatens Diddy for his slap of Drake and also goes in on Baby and Wayne.
J. Prince and his son Jas have ties to Drake from before Drizzy signed with CMYM. Jas is also involved in litigation against Cash Money concerning Drake's royalties.
And wouldn't-you-know-it but a trailer for the J. and Jas Prince-produced documentary, Drake’s Homecoming: The Lost Footage also hit the web yesterday.
In the trailer, Jas drops this tidbit about what Lil Wayne thought of a young Drake. “Wayne told me he sucked,” Jas said. “He was like, ‘Jas, don’t play me that shit no more. It’s no good.' Wayne’s change of heart was imminent."
Are the Princes making a play to get Drake back? Or is this just all about the lawsuit?
Plus, if Drake does fly Birdman's coop, isn't he big enough at this point to exist only in his own OVO world?
Add the weirdness of went down with Lil Wayne's mixtape Free Weezy today, and it seems like something is brewing.
What exactly, we don't know. Feel free to speculate.
