Drake was coasting along in 2015, ruling the Hip Hop world with his album sales.
But he hit a snag the last two Sundays while headlining the Coachella musical festival. While his sets were notable for guest appearances by Madonna and Nicki Minaj, pretty everybody hated his overall performance. The website Consequence of Sound summed up the consensus by wondering if Drake was "the worst headliner in Coachella history".
It's an assessment that Drake doesn't necessarily disagree with. Journalist Ernest Baker got this text from Drizzy last week, between his two Sunday sets.
"I took an L for the first time. I just have to reassess what went wrong with my judgment," Drake told Baker.Drake will have the chance to sharpen his festival game at NYC's Governors Ball, which runs in early June.
But this could prove challenging. Big concerts can be difficult for rappers, who have to do a lot of heavy lifting because they don't typically have a live band behind them. If Drake couldn't parlay Madonna and Nicki into festival success, we're not holding our breath for New York.
If anybody saw Drake at Coachella, feel free to chime in.
