Dr. Dre dropped The Chronic when he was 27.
It made him a legend forever.
He had already had success with N.W.A., but going solo with such aplomb brought him to an entirely different level.
In a discussion with Kevin Hart, Dre admitted that he was talked into the album and quickly realized if it wasn't good, he was over.
"A close friend of mine, we’ll call him D.O.C., talked me into doing the Chronic album,” Dre explianed. “It wasn’t my decision, I was talked into doing that. I just went in there and went for it because I felt, at that time, it was a life-or-death situation… Back was against the wall. Life or death situation. This record is going to determine whether I’m going to stay in the studio or not.”
He got to stay.
