DJ Khaled did The Breakfast Club today and not surprisingly the hosts pressed him on where he stood on the Birdman Lil Wayne dispute.
Khaled refused to comment on the high profile breakup other than to say that both Baby and Wayne are family. Then he dropped some news that had been hinted at, but not yet confirmed.
"I’m not signed to Cash Money at all. I've been off for a minute," Khaled revealed. The 39-year old's We The Best Music imprint had been part of Birdman's label since 2012.
This is the second high profile Cash Money defection we have learned about in the last few days, following Bow Wow's announcement he was now independent.
Bow Wow said it was his inability to get music out that convinced him to part with Cash Money. However, when pressed by Charlamagne, Khaled explained that wasn't the case with him.
"There was never a hold up on the album," he said. "I wanted to drop the album [I Changed A Lot] last year. The only reason why I didn't drop it last year is because I felt like I wanted to give people more music."
Like Bow Wow, Khaled described his parting with Birdman and company as amicable. But it still can't be good for the label that everyone's leaving.
