Beanie Sigel remains in critical condition after he was shot a week ago in Pleasantville, N.J.
The 40-year old has been awake at times, according to Philly.com, but is breathing with the help of a ventilator and is unable to speak to investigators.
The bullet, fired from outside of the home Sigel was staying at, hit the rapper in the abdomen and exited through his shoulder. When the authorities found him he was bleeding in the home's basement.
Sigel has a dodgy history with guns; he was shot several times during a robbery attempt in 2006, and the year before he was acquitted of attempted murder. However, police do not believe Sigel was the intended target of the shooting.
"He may have become involved in something that was not necessarily his own doing," Lt. Danny Adcock explained. "Just wrong place, wrong time, if you will."
The home Sigel was staying at, and was shot in, belonged to his brother-in-law Umar Salahuddin. The 22-year old Salahuddin was also found at the scene injured but turned down medical attention, and also refused to cooperate with the police.
Salahuddin is not a suspect in the shooting of Sigel, although investigators believe he may have important information on who was involved.
"We do have some leads we're following up on," Adcock said. "But cooperation from the family is minimal."
Sigel had recently got out of prison, where he was serving two years for tax evasion. He was shot the day before his federal probation was to be revoked. Here's hoping Sigel recovers from his injuries and gets back behind the mic.
