It seems like folks are split about professional sports players kneeling for the national anthem. On one side you have the people who say players are disrespecting the flag, the United States and its soldiers by not standing. Others say the United States is built on the concept of free speech and free expression.
Common clearly agrees with those who say NFL players should have the right to freely protest without consequence. That's why he blasted Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for saying his players would have to stand for the anthem or they wouldn't be allowed to play.
Com said that Jones has the mentality of a slave owner.
“To me, it’s an owner mentality,” he told TMZ. “It’s like a slave owner mentality, to be honest. Like, ‘You gonna do what I say on this.’ Nobody disrespecting the job, they’re just saying 'This is how I want to place my body during this anthem' ... If somebody says, ‘I’m kneeling for what I believe in,’ then they should be able to do that, because that’s what this country is about.”What do you think about Jones telling his players that they have to stand for the anthem? Is that a slave owner's mentality?
